Good morning sisters and brothers;
Please know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers, especially during these turbulent times in which we are living.
I have been doing a lot of thinking about the importance of simple gifts.
As I have referenced in the past, the Shaker hymn simple gifts says it all.
"Tis the gift to be simple, tis the gift to be free, Tis the gift to come down where you ought to be. And when we find ourselves in the place just right, Twill be in the valley of love and delight. When true simplicity is gained. "

This past weekend Nina and I rode the train to Toronto. I took a simple gift along, a book titled Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell.
While most if not all of the other passengers were on their laptops, iPhones, I turned to page one.
In the blink of an eye we were pulling into Union Station in downtown Toronto.
I had been completely immersed in the narrative. I had lost all track of time. There is nothing quite like turning the pages of a book. The physical pages, not the electronic swipe of an ebook. I love the way the book feels in my hand, the type of font that was used. Reading is a simple gift that brings such joy.
That afternoon I rode the elevator, book in hand, to go to a Starbucks right next to the hotel. The elevator was filled to capacity, everyone staring into their iPhones . A woman standing next to me looked at the book I was holding and smiled. Nothing needed to be said.
I finished the book at the Starbucks , in the shadow of the CN Tower. It had transported me to another dimension.
My question to you, sisters and brothers is as follows.
What is the last book you read?
I would like to make a book list to share with our little reflection group.
My mom always said that a life without books would be a lesser life.
I agree with her.
May you have a lovely day.
Let us pray
Eternal God, you create us by your power and redeem us by your love. Guide and strengthen us by your Spirit, that we may give ourselves today in love and service to one another and to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
Que Diosito me los colme de bendiciones
Paz
I love you
John
